Analytical and Experimental Investigations of Shunt Capacitor- Stimulated Induction Generator (SCSIG)

Shakuntla Boora

The topic of this manuscript envisages or examines initially the basic phenomenon of voltage build-up and the steady state analysis of three-phase SCSIG feeding three phase balanced resistive load. This preliminary study forms the foundation or basis of the design of future controllers. The conventional Newton raphson technique and a MATLAB based optimization technique fsolve is elaborated in detail along-with advantages and disadvantages for attaining the solution of simultaneous non linear equation. The fsolve technique is adopted in this manuscript for the solution of non-linear equations due to its advantages over conventional method. The solution of these equations yields the saturated value of magnetizing reactance Xmg and frequency Fy. Then the performance can be accessed from equivalent circuit using these values of Xmg and Fy. The effect of excitation capacitance on the different performance characteristics under no load and resistive load on the SCSIG is also investigated here. The experimental results outcomes are investigated on laboratory available induction machine set of 3.73 kW coupled with a dc shunt machine (prime mover). The analytical and the experimental investigations outcomes exhibit a very good association. The good association between the two outcomes authenticates the implementation of the proposed technique. The results under transient condition are captured using Fluke-435-B power analyzer.
